SUMMARY:Métis Crossing – “Where Have All the Buffalo Gone” Play
DESCRIPTION:A story of love, family and Métis history will take the stage at Métis Crossing on October 10, 2026.\nWritten by Métis playwright Tai Amy Grauman and presented by Axis Theatre, Where Have All the Buffalo Gone? follows a Métis love story across seven generations. The production moves from the height of Métis life on the plains, through the disappearance of the buffalo, and into the present day.\nDrawing on Grauman’s own Callihoo family lineage, the play brings attention to the lives of Métis women whose experiences are often missing from historical accounts. A recurring character connects each era, exploring how the past continues to shape family, identity and belonging today.\nFor Grauman, bringing the production to Métis Crossing offers a meaningful opportunity to share the story with the people and on the land it reflects. The themes reach beyond the stage, connecting with the everyday experiences of Métis people in Alberta.\nThe setting adds another layer to the performance. Since 2021, Métis Crossing has worked with Elk Island National Park and rancher Len Hrehorets to rebuild a bison herd on-site. Its Visions, Hopes and Dreams Wildlife Park is now home to wood bison, plains bison and a rare herd of white bison.\nWith these herds grazing nearby, a play about the disappearance of the buffalo creates a powerful connection between history and the living landscape. Visitors will have an opportunity to experience storytelling in a place where cultural connection and the return of the bison are central to its purpose.\nEvent Details\nDate: October 10, 2026\nTime: 5–10 p.m.\nLocation: Métis Crossing, near Smoky Lake, Alberta\nPerformance admission: $45 per person\nPerformance with dinner: $100 per person\nGuests can choose to attend the performance on its own or pair the evening with dinner at Métis Crossing.\nBook perfo\n
